There are a growing number of iCloud account holders at risk of having their devices hacked by a hacker group who call themselves the Turkish Crime Family. The hacker group claims to have access to 250 million iCloud accounts and if Apple does not pay the ransom by April 7th, the group is threatening to reset the passwords to those accounts and remotely wipe the devices. Apple has claimed that no hacking has occurred and the data came from previous third party services. However, Apple is actively monitoring to prevent unauthorized access to user accounts and working with law enforcement to identify the criminals involved.
Although we do not know the extent of this breach or how many iCloud account holders may be at risk, Alexaur Technology suggests that you take precaution and change your Apple ID password using the guidelines in our previous post, The Importance of Cyber Security to create a strong password. To provide the best protection against these kind of attacks, it is also encouraged that you utilize two-factor authentication and make sure that the same password is not used for multiple accounts.
Alexaur Technology has included the link to manage your Apple ID account here.
